About Hyoid

Hyoid is a line of fine art porcelain jewelry created by sculptor and artist Sasha Samsonova in Los Angeles, California.

All pieces are made in porcelain and glass — materials that resist easy outcomes and produce results that couldn't be achieved any other way. Each form is built by hand, without molds or pursuit of precise repetition, consciously choosing a path of evolution, growth and utterly unique pieces that sometimes can’t be replicated even by the artist herself. Porcelain is not a forgiving material, it remembers every touch, resists control, and punishes inattention. And yet when it works, it produces something luminous and a little unreal.

After each jewel is individually sculpted by hand, it goes into the kiln at 2400°F. At that temperature, things change in ways that can be influenced but never fully controlled — materials react to each other, surfaces transform, and the piece that emerges from the kiln is never quite the one that entered it.

It’s this balance between careful craftsmanship and complete chaos that is at the core of every Hyoid piece.

Hyoid artifacts are delicate, ethereal, and rare - to own one, is to hold something that exists nowhere else in the world.
